I am frequently told what I tutor is a strange combination of subjects. I beg to differ because the Maths, my languages and Chess all have something in common and that is pattern recognition. Besides, it is often said that Maths is a language too.
When you think of the grammar in the romance languages it is very logical and there is a process you can follow not least with verb conjugations and to my mind this is very similar to a Mathematical process. Key differences are there are exceptions to many of the rules in my languages and you actually have to speak them too. You cannot speak Mathematics.
I think it is more universally accepted that Chess and Maths are related. Maths is definitely needed to calculate piece trades and a strategy is needed to solve some mathematical problems too such as anticipating obstacles.
